Crews all set for Scotland

WARRINGTON Rowing Club will be represented by 14 crews at this weekend's National Rowing Championships.

The club are set to send 19 rowers to the championships in Strathclyde, Scotland, with one crew taking part in the senior event and 13 others participating in the junior races.

Junior qualification races start tomorrow, Friday, with senior qualification on Saturday before all the finals take place on Sunday.

Katy McQuillian and Olivia Oakes were the club's only medallists last year with silver in the girls' junior 15 double sculls.

The Grappenhall duo also won bronze in the junior 16 double sculls at May's National Schools Regatta, where Oakes grabbed gold in the single sculls.

Michael Pownall, also from Grappenhall, was another to earn a silver medal at last year's event while competing for Runcorn Rowing Club in the boys' junior 14 double sculls.

Pownall won silver for Warrington with James Whitehead in the junior 15 double sculls at this year's National Schools Regatta, while Jenny Argent and Hannah Unsworth also medalled at that competition with a third-placed finish in the girls' junior 18 double sculls.
