Stone wars

LEGAL action has been suggested after delivery vans twice broke community centre paving stones.

The vans were bringing bark to a play area at newly refurbished Bewsey Barn in Great Sankey - but they drove across the paved area and shattered the stones.

The first visit cracked eight stones and the second shattered up to 14, Wednesday's meeting of Great Sankey Parish Council heard.

The deliveries were ordered in by a group using the community centre.

Clr Liz Smith said: "They should be treating them with respect, not driving across them."

Council clerk Cheryl Wakefield said: "It's going to cost us a lot of money."

Parish Clr Tony Dodd said: "We should sue the company for the damage."

Clr Judith Wheeler

said: "It's damage to someone else's property."

The council resolved that chairman Clr Alan Bird should write a letter to the parties involved about the damage.

Bewsey Barn, off Old Hall Road in Old Hall, is one of five community centres maintained by Great Sankey Parish Council.

It hosts activities including playgroups, slimming clubs, bowls and karate lessons.
