GOBSMACKED bystanders watched in amazement as a UFO hovered above the Runcorn-Widnes bridge before gliding silently across the sky towards Widnes. The unidentified craft – described by one amazed witness as ‘grey, diamond-shaped and bigger than a plane’ – was spotted on Monday morning by people from both towns.
Below are your accounts of what you saw, photos that you captured and a possible explanation for what the UFO could have been. If you saw it over the bridge or have pictures or video footage, use the email or phone number on the right.

Karen Bird, Pine Road, Runcorn, was on her way to Dutton on Monday, saw the object. Didn't see a helicopter. It was misshaped, looked a bit like a giant flag, greyish in colour.
Peter Sproston who works at Sutton Hall Golf Club, Sutton Weaver, saw it, didn't see the helicopter at first, but then did see it. Much smaller than the banner.

Andrew Currier, Widnes, travelling down Liverpool Road, described it as a big black diamond, miles up in the sky, didn't see any helicopter. It was absolutely blue sky.
A woman from Widnes, who works in Warrington, saw the helicopter and the banner. It was a massive banner, couldn't read it. Had to really look for the helicopter, which was pulling it.

Gary Lomax, of Sandringham Estate, Widnes, said: "I was having work done at my house, a couple of lights fitted, at about 10.30. A helicopter flew over with a banner about 200 feet below it. It was a banner about piracy being illegal. The banner must have been the size of a three-bedroom house. It flew over me towards the outlet village at Ellesmere Port and it glittered because of the sunshine on it. I'm sure it would have looked diamond shaped from some directions."

Mike Unsworth, from Halton Brow, pictured right, was driving into Runcorn Old Town when he saw ‘something out of Flight of the Navigator’ hovering over the Mersey. “It was huge!” the 24- year-old told The World. “I just thought: ‘What the hell was that?’ and tried to get a better look. I watched it for about two minutes then it cruised silently off towards West Bank. It took my breath away.”
