Larkin boxing clever

A PROMISING young boxer from Runcorn has emerged victorious from two tough encounters in a fortnight.

Paul Larkin, 14, defeated tricky southpaw Lee McConnell of Long Lane ABC in Liverpool over three rounds and performed the same feat in north Wales against experienced Carl Taylor a week later.

"Paul boxed brilliantly on both occasions and impressed everyone, even his opponents' coaches," said John Lalley of Runcorn Boys Boxing Club.

"Lee was a difficult opponent because he's a southpaw and had won both his previous fights, the most recent in the first round.

"But Paul took his time and boxed superbly and came through.

"And against Carl he was giving away a lot in experience and had to absorb some hard body shots before stepping up and winning in the third."

Paul, from Sandymoor, won trophies for both victories and is looking forward to a well-earned rest this summer before the boxing season resumes later in the year.

"He's had an excellent season and really deserves those trophies," John added.
